BR Charter Schools Drive Performance and Academic Growth Across Baton Rouge

The Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) released the 2024 School Performance Scores (SPS) for the state’s public schools and systems. The results show that Baton Rouge charter schools made significant gains and continue to drive academic performance and growth across the EBR district.

2024 Baton Rouge Charter School SPS Highlights

We’ve Grown the Number of High-Quality Seats

  • Baton Rouge charter schools increased the number of students in “High-Quality” seats by 19%, adding 2,476 seats last year. For the 2023-2024 school year, 53% of the city’s charter school students were enrolled in “High-Quality” charter seats.
  • Enrollment in “High-Quality” open-enrollment district-run schools declined by 1,000 students to 25% during the same period.
  • A seat is considered “High-Quality” if the school receives an “A” or “B” performance letter grade from the state or a “C” grade while ranking in the top third statewide for academic growth.

Public Charter Schools Improved

  • Seven Baton Rouge charter schools increased their state performance score by at least one letter grade.
  • None of the Baton Rouge Charter schools dropped a letter grade in their performance score.
  • 40% of Baton Rouge’s charter schools ranked in the top 25% of the state for academic growth.
  • 76% of charter schools in Baton Rouge received a performance letter grade of “C” or better.

Individual Charter Schools Were Among the Top Performing Citywide

While we have made significant progress over the last several years, much work remains.
