On Wednesday, March 6, 2024, I spoke before the House Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education in Washington, D.C., on the benefits of charter schools for students and families. I was joined by Dr. Macke Raymond, Founder and Director of the Center for Research on Education Outcomes at Stanford University, Dr. Julian Vasquez Heilig, Founding Board Member of Network for Public Education, and Mr. Robert Pondiscio, Senior Fellow of American Enterprise Institute. I had the opportunity to give an opening statement and then answer questions from the committee members.
I also met with Congresswoman Julia Letlow (R-LA) to discuss the bipartisan bill she and Congresswoman Jill Tokuda (D-HI) introduced, the Empower Charter School Educators to Lead Act. This bill would provide access to funding for educators and community leaders to help strengthen their charter school planning efforts and get the assistance they need to complete the charter application successfully.
It was truly an incredible and rewarding experience to represent Louisiana and highlight the important contributions and impact charter schools are making on our students, our families, and our public education system.
Below are links to my full written testimony entered into the record and a replay of the hearing.
