Mikeisha Mitchell always knew in her heart that she wanted to be a teacher. Her passion and dedication for her students is unmistakable within the walls of her classroom at Collegiate Baton Rouge where she teaches a College Career Class: a class dedicated to preparing students for the sometimes-daunting college admission process while also assisting them with info related to pursuing chosen degrees.

Impacting the lives of 85 juniors and 99 seniors, this first generation college student and youngest of six also finds time to lead the school’s dance team -- the Lady Dolphins.

Drawing inspiration from her teachers who urged her to look beyond her younger years’ financial situation and onto her dreams, Mikeisha is a recent LSU graduate -- earning her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education -- and a proud 2015 alumni of Abramson Sci Academy (a New Orleans-based sister school of Collegiate).

Mikeisha works to ensure that all of her students find the courage to push themselves to achieve their goals. Her hopefulness is matched only by her own passion to serve her community; which she does by providing ACT workshops and organizing college meet-ups for students to inform them about the college experience and options.

Mikeisha recalls her fondest memory from her high school years at Abramson Sci Academy as being part of the dancing team in 2012.

She looks forward to continuing to inspire students with her own personal story and contributing her share to continuing the mission of Collegiate as a “world-class public schools that prepares all students for college success and lives of unlimited opportunity.”
