What’s a quote that motivates you throughout the day?“Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself” - Tolstoy
What’s your most memorable NSBR moment? So, I’m going to have to ask for some grace on this one as I’ve only been here five weeks. If forced to give a sooner-rather-than-later answer, I would have to say such a memory occurred before I was a member of the team when I was invited (by Adonica) to attend the announcement of the inaugural 2018-2019 ChangeMakers class. I was inspired by the number of people (all from such diverse backgrounds) who took such an active interest in our city’s education community as indicated by their applying to the program. Now, a member of the team, it’s comforting to see ChangeMakers’ continued growth with a larger group participating in the 2019-2020 program!
What are your favorite go-to locations to recharge and gain inspiration/motivation?So, I’m a bit of a runner so I do some of my best thinking running alone; usually around the LSU lakes. Ironically, some of my clearest thinking comes to me during the fall and winter months’ temps when the weather is a little cooler and more forgiving -- allowing me to run in the sunshine. There’s something to be said about exhausting the body to clear and ready the mind.
What’s about to get much better? To me, Baton Rouge is ALWAYS getting better. Whether it’s the improvement (or upscaling) of families' educational options, our city’s burgeoning food scene (seems there’s something opening up every week and even old standards are making improvements to their time-tested footprints), infrastructure improvements to our parks and recreational options -- it seems that lately, our city is growing tired of being left behind.
Who would play you in a movie of your life?Ummmm… there’s a movie being made about MY life? Do I get to review the screenplay?
What sets NSBR apart? The swiss army knife team that moves some pretty big rocks for the city -- that’s what sets NSBR apart! If someone on the team doesn’t know something, they’re able to redirect you to the correct source OR willing to learn right beside you. What bit of trivia do you know that is very interesting but also very useless? Why a beer made in England is called an India Pale Ale (or IPA)! Actually, anything about beer. (Just ask me!)
What really needs to be modernized? Our capital region’s transportation options -- both publicly offered and for those with cars (i.e. road improvement/design, alternate routes, etc.)!!! And I don’t just mean Baton Rouge proper, but infrastructure connecting all the surrounding parishes. I just see so much potential for Baton Rouge and the capital region and wonder, “Why not us? Why not now?”What topic could you spend hours talking about?Do I have to stick to one topic? Film, vinyl record-chasing, craft beer, running, music… how much time do you have?
