Baton Rouge, LA. – New Schools for Baton Rouge (NSBR) announced today that it has hired two new staff members. Bing Howell has joined the organization as the Vice President, School Growth Strategy, and Thomas Rodgers has joined as the Communication Strategist. In his position, Howell will serve as the organization’s lead strategist on transforming schools in North Baton Rouge for at least 12,000 students by 2017. Rodgers will lead the organization’s integrated communication plan through internal and external communications.
“We are thrilled to have Bing and Thomas join our team at NSBR. They both bring experience and fresh ideas that will be tremendously valuable as we work toward our goal of creating excellent schools for the Baton Rouge community,” said Chris Meyer, CEO of NSBR.
Howell previously worked as the Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives, Teachers and Leaders for the Tennessee Department of Education in Nashville. He has also worked with the New Jersey Department of Education as Human Resources Director and Manager of the Office of Portfolio Management. Howell earned an MBA from the University of Kansas and an undergraduate degree from Iowa State University.
Rodgers has previously worked in marketing and communications at the Division of Student Life & Enrollment at LSU, the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. Rodgers earned a BAMC in Political Communication from the Manship School at LSU and will graduate with an MPA from the E.J. Ourso College of Business at LSU in December.

Its mission is to ensure that every child in Baton Rouge has access to an excellent school. By 2017, NSBR will improve educational outcomes for 12,000 students in the city’s highest-need neighborhoods.
